Tengboche is a short and easy trip in the Everest Region. There famous monastery Tengboche has been the heart of Sherpa culture since 1916.
The first celibate monastery in Solu Khumbu, it is a community of about 40 monks under the leadership of the Abbot, Tyangboche Rinpoche said to be the reincarnate lama. From Tyangboche you see the abode of Menge Gyalmo Miyo-Lungsangma (Mt Everest), Ama Dablam to the east, Thamserku and Mt.Kangtega to the south, Tawache to the north and Kwangde to the west with Khumbila in the middle of the valley.
This trek heads from Lukla to the Sherpa towns in the north. We spend time in mountain village of Namche Bazaar which was a famous trading centre between Tibet and Nepal. From Namche we head up to the holy village of Tengboche. This has long been the religious centre for all inhabitants of the Solu Khumbu area.
There are numerous shrines and a beautiful monastery that sits at 3870 meters. We will take our time heading back to Lukla and there are many options for extra side trips. This trek takes 8 days and is considered moderate.
